Daveyton, Gauteng<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 It was a defining moment for Mpume when she took to the pulpit for the first time at the annual Lutheran All Women\u2019s Conference, held in Daveyton on the East Rand. Before an audience of more than 3,000 women from across the province, Mpume delivered a powerful and uncompromising message centered on\u00a0altars<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 both the spiritual altars of the Lord and the counterfeit altars often erected through cultural and personal compromise.<\/p>\n

Preaching from\u00a0Isaiah 60:1<\/strong>\u00a0(\u201cArise, shine, for your light has come\u201d) and\u00a0Romans 12:2<\/strong>\u00a0(\u201cDo not be conformed to the pattern of this world\u201d), Mpume also drew from\u00a0Isaiah 59<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Romans 12:1<\/strong>\u00a0to provide deeper context. These scriptures led her to speak on themes of\u00a0sin and iniquity<\/strong>,\u00a0repentance<\/strong>, and\u00a0sacrifice<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 calling the Church to return to holiness and the true worship of God.<\/p>\n

One of the central points of her sermon was the\u00a0importance of building an altar to the Lord<\/strong>, contrasting it with the dangers of engaging with other spiritual altars, including those associated with traditional practices such as\u00a0sangomas<\/em>. \u201cEvery altar carries a spirit,\u201d she said, \u201cand as children of God, we must make sure our lives are dedicated to the altar of the Lord, not the altars of the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her message was both convicting and controversial. When she referenced Jesus\u2019 rebuke of the temple being turned into a \u201cden of robbers\u201d instead of a \u201chouse of prayer,\u201d the atmosphere in the hall grew tense. While many women were visibly moved and responded in prayer and repentance, some pastors reportedly kept their distance afterward, uneasy about the boldness of her message.<\/p>\n

Despite the mixed reactions, Mpume\u2019s sermon left an undeniable mark. It was a courageous reminder of the prophetic role of preaching \u2014 to confront sin, call for repentance, and restore the Church to its rightful place as a house of prayer.<\/p>\n

As one attendee reflected, \u201cShe spoke truth without fear. It was uncomfortable, but necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n
