Therefore pray the Lord of the Harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. – Matthew 9:38

The season of Harvest is upon us – the concluding season where what has been sown in the last year will now be manifest and will be seen by everyone!

Every year – after the three feasts a year – there is a harvesting of that particular year’s fruit – which will have bearing on all previous harvests that will give this one it’s genealogy.

The rabbi’s believe that at Rosh HaShanah God opens the books and judges, based on the past year. This is not about salvation, this is about purpose and destiny.

For us as Christians – the above two scriptures in Matthew 9 is a quote that Jesus himself instructs his disciples to pray to the Lord of the Harvest! The Harvest is always about souls and ultimately the souls of the whole earth will be reaped and the separation of the wheat and the tares will then happen.

In Hebrew this translates to Yehovah (3068H) Yatsiyr (7105H) – the Lord of the Harvest.

Joel 3:13
Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Come, go down; For the winepress is full, The vats overflow – For their wickedness is great.

Isaiah 40:10
Behold, the Lord GOD shall come with a strong hand, and his arm shall rule for Him. Behold, His reward is with Him, and his work before Him.

Isaiah 62:11
Indeed the Lord has proclaimed to the end of the world, Say to the daughter of Zion, Surely your salvation is coming; Behold, His reward is with Him, and His work before Him.

Revelations 22:12
And behold, I coming quickly; and My reward is with Me, to give to every man according as his work.

John 4:34
Jesus said to them, My food is to do the will of Him that sent Me, and to finish His work.

Matthew 20:1
For the kingdom of heaven is like landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard.

There are two threshing floors and two harvests. The one is the harvest belonging to the Lord, the other – the harvest of tares – is burnt and judged.

We have been given a very strong word about this reaping time:

Revelation 11:1
Then I was given a reed like a measuring rod. And the angel stood saying: Rise and measure the temple of God, the altar, and those who worship there.

Revelation 14:7 and 15,16
Saying with a loud voice: “Fear God, and give glory to him, for the hour of His judgement is come; and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the seas and the springs of water”.
And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to Him who sat on the cloud, “Thrust in Your sickle and reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe.
So He that sat on the cloud thrust in His sickle on the earth; and the earth was reaped.

God is about to measure and weigh us – He is about to deal with the mixture in the church – and the distinction will be found in the worship!
Wheat always bows its head as it ripens – true submission. Tares always stand tall, never bowing to anything – true rebellion.

That is why in this month of ELUL before Rosh HaShanah we prepare to return – we repent!
